HANOVER'S SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

We produce products that last.

Our products are manufactured with a homogenous mix and meet or exceed all ASTM strength and absorption requirements, which ensures longevity and reduces the need for replacement. Old material doesn’t need to be discarded, and new material doesn’t need to be produced, reducing waste and environmental impact. What’s more sustainable than that? There are projects using Hanover® Pavers that have been in use for 50 years!

WE ARE REDUCING CEMENT USE.

Through innovation and research, we have reduced our cement use by 20% without compromising Hanover's renowned quality. Our products still deliver high strength and density, low absorption, and precise tolerances. Materials like concrete, which combine low cost, high durability, and extreme structural strength, are hard to find. As we move forward, we are committed to intentionally and sustainably decreasing our cement use even further as we contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions.

WE USE RECYCLED MATERIALS.

Keeping up with new technology and manufacturing techniques is a priority for us. We continually research sustainable ways to improve our products and processes and find new ways to reuse materials. Hanover provides several product lines that are produced with recycled materials. We use discarded clam shells in our Chesapeake Collection and crushed brick chips in our specialized Recycled Content Paver Colors collection. For increased sustainability, we also incorporate excess crushed pavers into our products, such as Natural Diamond Roof Ballast Pavers. Asphalt Block contains post-industrial or pre-consumer recycled content from several by-products. Hanover's GRIDLOC® System and Plug are manufactured from 90% recycled materials, as well. Knowing they contribute to environmentally sound practices, you can safely and responsibly use Hanover products.

WE USE LOCAL RAW MATERIALS.

Our American-Made products are crafted in the heart of South Central Pennsylvania, a region rich with raw material sources. In fact, this is why the founders chose the town of Hanover to grow their business. By sourcing most of our ingredients within a 25-mile radius, we reduce transportation needs and support our local community. This approach leverages abundant local materials and resources, promoting sustainability and community well-being.

WE HELP INCREASE ENERGY EFFICIENCY.

Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) measures materials' solar reflectance and thermal emissivity and indicates how hot the roof surface will likely become when solar radiation is present. A higher SRI means the surface has a greater ability to reject heat, allowing the roof to stay cooler and reducing the heat island effect. We provide Green Roof Pavers with high SRI to help improve a building’s energy efficiency by reducing cooling costs, air pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions from electricity demands.

WE RECYCLE AND FILTER WATER.

Water is reused and recycled whenever possible. We recycle 300,000 gallons of water daily across our campuses and throughout our manufacturing process. Wastewater is filtered multiple times to remove impurities. We not only recycle water during the manufacturing process, we provide a line of Permeable Paving Units. This commitment to sustainability ensures our operations are environmentally friendly and resource-efficient.
