VENTLOC®

SUPERIOR WIND UPLIFT RESISTANCE

What is Ventloc®?

Ventloc® provides superior wind uplift resistance at wind speeds up to 130 mph. Designed with tongue and groove sides and a patented venting edge that enables the rapid transfer of over paver to under paver pressures, this unique combination results in a significant enhancement of lightweight paver system wind uplift resistance. The patented interlocking tongue and groove design creates a monolithic paver surface in which an individual paver is no longer the weakest link.

Sized at 11 3⁄4” x 17 5⁄8” x 2”, Ventloc® is stocked in a Natural color with a Natural finish. In addition to Hanover’ standard colors, custom colors are available when quantities permit. When reflective properties are important, White is available. U.S. Patent #5,887,397 and other patents pending.

Please Note:
Ventloc® is a ballast paver designed for limited pedestrian use (i.e. maintenance personnel) and is not suited for areas in which regular pedestrian traffic is expected. Ventloc® is not for use in plaza deck applications where site furnishings will be used.

Wind Pressures & Uplift

When wind flows around a building, it produces high suction pressures, mainly at the leading edges. When the wind is forced over the top of a building roof’s edge, "flow separation" occurs creating a negative uplifting pressure. (See chart below.)
Wind Uplift occurs when wind flow pressures create a strong lifting effect, much like the effect on airplane wings. Wind flow over a roof creates vortices that create an uplifting force on roof components. The unique Ventloc® air transfer passageways help negate these positive and negative pressures, providing stability to the paver ballast system.

The Vents Make a Difference

Ventloc’s patented venting edge enables the rapid transfer of over paver to under paver pressures. The transfer of pressures through Ventloc’s vented edge has been tested and proven to provide the best lightweight paver wind uplift resistance in the industry.

Ventloc® was tested at Intertek ATI incorporating three different conditions - no parapet, 12” parapet, and 24” parapet – with wind speeds up to 130 mph. In all three conditions, no movement was observed.

Pressures were recorded at four different locations – top, bottom and both ends. Ventloc’s equalization was maintained at a near zero value from the top surface to the underneath side of the paver, clearly demonstrating that the vents are transferring pressures. Refer to Ventloc® Test Report 10.25.16. Ventloc’s ability to equalize pressures, along with its true interlocking design, provides a much more wind resistant installation than pavers without vents.

Installation Guidelines

Ventloc’s patented tongue and groove design creates an interlocking roof ballast system in which an individual paver is no longer the weakest link. Download Ventloc® Installation Guidelines. When reviewing these guidelines, take the conditions and situations unique to the location and individual project into consideration. Hanover® will need specific information before suggesting installation procedures. Project analysis is required before specifying Ventloc® Pavers.

Hanover® commissions several wind consultants and engineers who have many years of experience dealing with roof wind design. Complete the Wind Design Criteria form and submit to Hanover®. Each form will be reviewed by our consultants.
